Flagstaff Home Builders: Capstone vs. Miramonte vs. Solid Homes

Three production builders are active in the Flagstaff area. Here's how they compare on communities, product, and credentials, with the facts kept factual and the opinions labeled as mine.

Where I stand, stated plainly:I'm a REALTOR® with Valley Peaks Realty, Capstone Homes' brokerage, and before sales I worked as a construction superintendent and project manager on Capstone job sites. I sell Capstone homes. I'm not a neutral reviewer, and this page doesn't pretend otherwise. The competitor information below is kept factual, and where I don't have verified numbers for Miramonte or Solid Homes, I say “contact the builder” instead of guessing.

The Builder I Sell For

Capstone Homes

Capstone was founded in 2007 by two industry professionals with 45+ years of combined homebuilding experience and has been building in Flagstaff since about 2009. After nearly two decades here, it's the dominant local builder, with communities delivered across Bellemont, Presidio in the Pines, Flagstaff Ranch, Juniper Point, Canyon del Rio, and the Timber Sky master plan.

The credential that matters most at 7,000 feet is energy performance: Capstone is a U.S. Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home partner, won a DOE Housing Innovation Award in 2017 for a Flagstaff home in Presidio in the Pines, earned a 2018 Honorable Mention for Flagstaff Meadows in Bellemont, and builds ENERGY STAR certified homes, a certification level the company notes only about 1% of U.S. builders achieve.

  • DOE Zero Energy Ready Home partner with a 2017 DOE Housing Innovation Award
  • ENERGY STAR certified builder, a level roughly 1% of U.S. builders reach
  • Broadest product range in town: $653,900 townhome plans to $2.5M customs
  • 1/2/10 warranty with a dedicated warranty team and service portal
  • Nearly two decades building in Flagstaff's climate and soils
  • Full Design Studio personalization on dirt-start builds

Competitor, Fairly Stated

Miramonte Homes

Miramonte is the other established production builder inside Flagstaff city limits. It builds Aries inside the Timber Sky master plan, the same master plan where Capstone builds Sirius and Corvus, and has delivered later phases of Presidio in the Pines off Woody Mountain Road, a development built out over roughly 15 years with a mix of townhomes and single-family homes historically marketed toward first-time and move-up buyers.

Worth knowing: Presidio in the Pines originally had multiple builders, Capstone among them, and Capstone's 2017 DOE Housing Innovation Award was for a Presidio home. Today Presidio's active phases are Miramonte's. If you're comparing Timber Sky neighborhoods, tour both builders' models. I'll tell you honestly how the products differ, and Miramonte publishes its own plans and current pricing directly.

The Bellemont Value Play

Solid Homes

Solid Homes builds Shadow Mountain Village in Bellemont, the small I-40 community about 10 miles west of Flagstaff at roughly 7,100 feet. Bellemont is the region's main “more home for the money” option: noticeably lower prices than Flagstaff proper, with the trade-offs of a 10-mile commute, heavier snow exposure, and limited services.

Capstone built in Bellemont historically, its Flagstaff Meadows community earned the 2018 DOE Honorable Mention, but has no active inventory there today. If Bellemont's price point is what makes northern Arizona work for you, Solid Homes and the resale market are the real options, and I'll say exactly that rather than stretch you into a budget that doesn't fit.

How to Choose
